ADOPTECH's OPES (Optimization of Power Electronic Systems) software
allows the user to design a Power Factor Correction Boost Rectifier
and EMI (PFCBR-EMI) input filter for minimum cost subject to various
constraints. The topology for the PFCBR-EMI is fixed during the
design process. The design variables for the system are listed
below:
EMI Filter:
Common mode capacitor
Differential mode capacitor
Common mode choke
PFC Boost Rectifier:
Inductor core
Inductor wire
Number of wire turns in the inductor core (continuous variable)
Switch (IGBT database and MOSFET database)
Switching frequency (continuous variable)
Fast diode
Bridge diode
Thermal resistance of the heat sink to which the switch is attached
(continuous variable)
To design a PFCBR-EMI system using OPES the user must create
a database of possible choices for each component, set the upper
and lower bounds for each continuous design variable, and set
the conditions under which the system will operate. Once the design
problem has been configured OPES finds the combination of components
and continuous variables that will yield the cheapest design without
violating any of the constraints. After the optimization procedure
has been completed, the user can open various windows to view
detailed information for each of the top designs found by OPES.
OPES is powered by an advanced genetic algorithm (GA) optimization
code, called DARWIN, which has been specifically
tailored for engineering system design.
